Kacey Musgraves Delivers a Spellbinding Performance at the Fairwell Festival

Kacey Musgraves made her Redmond debut with a guitar in hand and music prepared to charm the audience. Though she didn’t come on until 10:15, the crowd had been gathered in front of the stage for several hours prior to her performance. Everyone vibrated with excitement; the lawn was covered with fans, both new and old, and Kacey made sure that all were appreciated.

Cardinal, a new song, was her choice of opener. It’s a beautiful track about losing a friend and seeing signs and omens out in the world that maybe, just maybe, they’re still out there somewhere. It was enchanting and I feel honored to have gotten to experience it. good wife was another crowd favorite, especially since it was her first time playing it since 2022. On the screen behind her, Kacey was framed in a red heart, akin to the ones you see on ‘I 🖤 __’ shirts.

Recently added to Apple Music’s “100 Best Albums”, Musgraves played several songs from 2018’s “Golden Hour”. The fans adored hearing Butterflies, Happy & Sad, Rainbow, and more from the album. One that stood out to me was Golden Hour with its soft melody and entrancing effect on the crowd. Everything about the night was mesmerizing, but especially that song.

There’s a lot of artists out there that choose not to acknowledge their older music. This could be for a plethora of different reasons, but sometimes it’s heartbreaking to the fans who made a connection with the older songs. Kacey is not only a wonderful performer and artist, but she makes music that truly resonates with people. I think she understands that. She played Merry Go ‘Round and Follow Your Arrow from her very first album, two songs that seemed to have deep emotional sentiment to the crowd. It was a beautiful experience getting to see everyone feel so united through songs that they each have different connections with.

Musgraves invited the crowd to do some karaoke with her, and the lyrics to Fleetwood Mac’s hit Dreams appeared on the screen. Covers are always fun because everyone knows the words. People were throwing an arm over their friend’s shoulder and singing at the top of their lungs, it was adorable. Another fan favorite, High Horse, was a few songs later, and it’s a song that feels distinctly nostalgic to me. She’s truly the queen of country that has the perfect amount of pop in it to appeal to a larger crowd. This one was truly a party! Even the people that aren’t huge fans knew the words, so it just lead for an incredible time.

She closed the show out with Slow Burn, another from her album "Golden Hour". It was a glorious finale, one that left the crowd with the bittersweet taste of the show being over but already replying each moment in their minds. Musgraves knows how to put on a show, amd everything about it was fulfilling and made me feel like a part of her family. She has the ability to bring everyone through music and she uses that superpower wisely.
