Flowerovlove Talks “MINI SKIRT WARRIOR” and Personas

Joyce Cisse is a British singer-songwriter who’s well known for her signature afro, catchy hooks, and intricate stage entrances. Cisse, known professionally as Flowerovlove, has recently been making waves in the realm of pop music. Her visual worldbuilding is just as memorable as her musical catalogue, and the intention is deliberate. Her debut album, MINI SKIRT WARRIOR, was released on August 28, 2026, and I was intrigued to learn the title is also a persona the singer has.

The music industry is no stranger to artists having personas, whether it be a stage name or character that’s portrayed in a concept album. With Flowerovlove already being a stage name, I wondered if MINI SKIRT WARRIOR represented a new identity or character. Flowerovlove is a nod to an Instagram username she had previously, Flowergarden2005. The name was born out of wanting anonymity at the beginning of her career, her love of flowers, and being a lover girl. MINI SKIRT WARRIOR also got its start on Instagram through a comment left by a fan on a live. It was her bio on the platform for a while, but she knew that it would be her debut album name.

I was curious about the distinctions between Joyce, Flowerovlove, and Mini Skirt Warrior, and I got the opportunity to ask about them during a press conference. When she was asked an earlier question during the conference, Joyce explained that Mini Skirt Warrior represents a sassier, more outspoken version of her personality. Flowerovlove is closer to her day-to-day, with the way she dresses regularly being very similar as well.

TMB: Would you say it's important to you to separate Flowerovlove as a persona and you as Joyce and Mini Skirt Warrior as well? 
Is there overlap there, and what else can you tell me about it? 

Flowerovlove: There's definitely an overlap. And I realize it becomes unhealthy. 
And this is a recent revelation, should I say, as in May, very recent. Whereas, like, believing that I am this thing that has become my brand isn't healthy for me. Because when it comes to stuff like that, this is a very competitive industry, and you have to understand that it's not comparing you as a human being. 
It's comparing your sales or your art, and that's something very hard to also take in as a person with so much emotion and care towards this thing that's being seen as a sale. It is unfortunate, but it's how it goes. So I definitely, since then, have been a completely different person to this thing that's my brand. 
And that's helped me go forward. I also do feel like Mini Skirt Warrior, Joyce, and Flowerovlove are completely different. They're just different parts of me and extensions of me, but it's like everything is amplified. The only thing about the overlap is Flowerovlove is incredibly similar to me; it's just me with more glitter. I don't really dress down; that's just how I look all the time. 


Her response was very insightful, and it made me look at the project through a whole new lens. It was very honest to hear from an artist that having their art critiqued can be a very personal thing, and it feels logical that a level of separation through a persona or identity can minimize critique feeling so personal. Joyce is showing the world a new side of herself as Flowerovlove, and MINI SKIRT WARRIOR doubles as a debut album and a persona that’s an extension of her; amplified, but her nonetheless.
