Festival Preview: Live at Leeds in the Park ones to watch
It’s that time of year again, fields and parks are filled nation wide with thousands of revellers ready for another festival season. Each year the festival calander gets more and more stacked with the very best the music scene has to offer, and this year is no different. Like they do every year, the team at Live at Leeds kick off the summer with a huge line-up celebrating some of the biggest and new indie bands. They return to their home of Temple Newsam in Leeds for the 4th year running following the successes of previous years both there and in the city.
As the festival fast approaches, I will be taking a look at some of the must-see bands across the day as well as diving into some of the other gems the festival has to offer on site throughout the day.
First up we take a look at a band travelling just along the road, it’s Manchester’s Corella. The indie quartet have gained a lot of positive attention in recent years with their energetic, feel-good sound, particularly their debut album ‘Once Upon A Weekend’ that was released a year ago this month. Their live shows are the perfect fit for festivals and their slot on this bill will go hand in hand basking (hopefully) in the Leeds sunshine as they take to the main stage.
From new names to one of the most iconic names appearing this year and a booking that will go down in the festivals history books - Essex singer Natasha Bedingfield will be bring her dance-pop to the main stage. Its certain that she won’t be staring out at a blank field as the crowd will come in their numbers to sing their hearts out to what will be a very memorable show.
Out-with this years incredible bands, there are plenty to do on site should anyone be lost while waiting for the music they love. For the first time the festival have brought in a comedy tent for those who wish to have their ribs tickled throughout the day - names like Stephen Bailey, Maise Adam & Frankie Monroe amongst others will be there to bring the fun. Else where the return of the signing tent will see bands meet and greet fans, plenty of wide range food vendors serving everything from Greek gyros to Japanese fried chicken as well as some great vegan options. Also for the first time will see The Two Legs pub open its doors selling both alcoholic and alcohol free options.
Back to the music as we turn our attention to the bands flying the flag for Scotland this year. On the Dork Stage, rising stars Brogeal will bring their Scottish folk pop-punk energy to the festival for the first time to kick off what will be a busy summer. Whitburn icons The Snuts will also be bringing the action as they headline the DIY Big Top stage - climbing their way up from small cap bars in their hometown to being top of festival bills is highly deserving and will be their chance to show exactly why they belong at the top.
Fresh of the back of the release of record number four ‘21st Century Fiction’, The Amazons will kick off the start of the action packed festival season before hitting the road on their UK tour later on the year. Their live shows have always been an incredible experience - weather you’re at the front or back, get ready to bang your head and mosh the night away to one of Readings finest rockers.
Another name standing out that will be sure to bring the party is Norway’s vocal icon Sigrid. Having such a decorated music career, she knows her way around a festival and what it takes to work a crowd. Despite no music released since 2023, her catalogue is filled with songs that’s sure to get the Leeds crowd dancing in what will sure to be a big feel-good singalong.
Closing off a jam packed day will be one of the most iconic names to grace the indie music scene - Bloc Party’s sound has graced the stages of festivals since 2005 as well as their standout songs played loud across pubs and clubs across the UK. Celebrating 20 years of their debut ‘Silent Alarm’, they will be performing the album in full as well as throwing in more of their classics throughout the night. Despite a few name changes from their formation in 1999 and a hiatus in 2009, the Londoners have been a staple in the indie scene since their debut and one thing is for sure, this will be one big party to celebrate one of the greatest albums ever written.
Temple Newsam awaits for what is set to be another special addition of Live at Leeds.
