Sixpence None The Richer Return to Eugene

July 23rd, 2025 - Eugene, OR

Back in Eugene just seven months after their headlining show in town, Sixpence None The Richer brought just as much love & light opening the show for Toad The Wet Sprocket as they did last year. There’s something so magical about listening to them live, like a small part of you is returning to something comforting and familiar. Singer Leigh Nash is such a wonderful personality and has a talent for making the audience feel like a part of the Sixpence family.

They opened with “Angeltread,” a classic fan-favorite from all the way back in 1995. There’s something so warm about this song— the soft twinkling of the guitar during the verses, and when it picks up tempo, it’s just addictive. Nash has one of those timeless voices that never age no matter how many years pass.

The beauty of this band is that they’ve only grown throughout the years, both in real life and in their sound. They have an authenticity and flow that can’t be manufactured, one that comes from years of learning and growing with each other. The lyrics roll between moments of vulnerability and moments of strength— things that come from the wisdom of the years passing. This dynamic is just as evident on-stage as it is in their more recent tracks, such as “Thread The Needle.” It’s all about living and growing through those hardships.

As has become custom for the band, they threw in a handful of covers. The audience loved their twist on Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” Nash brings something so light and airy to the track, while guitarist Matt Slocum incorporates the twinkly guitar tones that the band is known for. But, of course, their most well known cover is The La’s “There She Goes.” Eugene seemed to love this one— everyone was swaying with content smiles on their face. Granted, the song alone brings that calming feeling of gentle happiness, but Sixpence just nails the energy of it each time.

It was a joy to see people’s faces light up when the first verse of “Kiss Me” began. It’s one of those tracks that even if you think you don’t know it, you do. It’s such a beautiful moment— people realizing that this incredible track is being performed live right in front of them by the band that wrote it. I turned to see people smiling, hand-in-hand with their partners or loved ones. It was an opening set that fans both new and old enjoyed deeply!
