Prepare to be Ensnared by Peace Cult’s “Siren Song”
“Sing me a siren song / i am under your control”
Tourists and humidity descend on Florida as June ticks on and Tampa locals, Peace Cult, must be feeling summer creeping in as well. For their newest release, “Siren Song” the promo photos are all full sun, bathing suits, and sandy beaches. This is in stark contrast with their normal promo of dark reds and blacks, indicating to audiences that this song may go in a different direction.
This song, from my point of view, is rife in the push and pull of the ocean. Treneff’s vocal delivery throughout the song is raw, longing, and almost desperate as she longs after the subject of the song. Meanwhile, the band pushes and pulls right alongside her. They pull back with the more delicate lyrics like “whisper to me in tongues / I cling to every word” before pushing again as the chorus begs the subject of the song to understand the control and helplessness they feel about the relationship.
While I was honestly expecting this single to be even more acoustic based on the promo and the song name itself, that’s not really Peace Cult and I actually really love that they kept their signature sound while still playing with it. I also can’t wait to hear this song performed live, as that is where I think that Peace Cult especially shines. Coming in at two minutes and forty seconds long, “Siren Song” is short but very sweet, offering a song perfect for someone ensnared in a summer situationship with their own siren. Thank you Peace Cult for giving me early listen to your new song!
