Bleech 9:3 Is A Rock Force- Debut EP Review
Bleech 9:3 is one of the most exciting new bands coming out of Dublin, Ireland. They recently released their debut, self-titled EP, marking their first major release.
The EP features the first three singles they released as a band, with “Jacky” kicking off the EP in an explosive way. The guitars are heavy and fast, a common theme on the EP, even experimental at times. “Jacky” features unconventional strumming in the verses that transition into a full sound that fills the track. Where the guitar is unconventional, the bass picks up and carries the heavy rock sound. “Jacky” is the perfect opener as it sets the tone for the rest of EP and intrigues listeners.
Among the other previously released singles are “Cannonball” and “Ceiling.” “Cannonball” seems to slow the heaviness down, until the chorus hits. The instruments create a 2000’s grunge sound, with emotional vocals to top it off.
The EP also features two new brand tracks, “Underrated” and “No Suprises.” “Underrated” places singer Barry Quinlan’s clear, vulnerable vocals at the forefront of the track, featuring the strongest songwriting of the EP. Lyrics like “Will I kneel before the promise of those words you speak/ Oh, my sweet altar profit,” create a story of an unhealthy relationship. “No Suprises” carries the same grunge sound as “Cannonball,” while having the same caliber of songwriting as “Underrated.”
These two new tracks prove that Bleech is only getting stronger, while the original three singles provide a strong backboard to who they are as a band.
While they tend to be compared to bands like Fontaines D.C. and Wunderhorse, Bleech 9:3 takes elements from both new and old rock, creating a new sound. Within one song, there could be vocal elements similar to a Wunderhorse song combined with Beastie Boys-esque guitars.
Despite debuting in October of 2025, Bleech is touring constantly, playing shows across the UK and Ireland. They have yet to branch out to North America, but with high streaming numbers and sold-out shows, a North American tour is imminent. The experience of touring and playing shows is palpable in the new songs and is only making the band tighter.
The rock scene coming out of the UK and Ireland is some of the most exciting new music today, and Bleech 9:3 is a true testament to that. Their debut EP is extremely impressive and only guarantees a promising future for the band.
