Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry Gave Us the Crossover We Didn’t Know We Needed

The suprise new single, “Hive Mind” is already a contender for my favorite song of the year, and we’re not even halfway through February. As with every new Knocked Loose release, it’s not just a song release, but a music video, new merch, and a statement. This song starts off heavy, and wastes no time calling out people considered part of the “hive mind”. In the social media dependent times we are currently in, it hits home in a lot of ways.

This 3.5 minute long song is full of catchy riffs, beats, and one of my favorite things, the kickball snare.

The first line of the chorus goes straight for the throat: “I don’t care that you hate yourself” I can’t find quite the right words to explain what it did to my brain because it may be one of the most relatable things I’ve heard this year. Whether it be politics, social media trends, or something as simple as your favorite band, with the ease and speed anything can be shared on the internet, not only will more people become a part of the hive mind concept, but more people will see it as well, and form opinions like those talked about in this song.

I’ve been a fan of Knocked Loose for years, and I was not familiar with Denzel Curry before this song, but I need more of this. Mixing genres doesn’t always work out well, but it’s obvious that these guys know what they’re doing. I spent a solid part of my work day with it on repeat, and daydreaming about seeing it live.
