“Man we miss the curls!”: A breakdown of Remy Bond’s newest single from lyrics to production
Remy Bond returns with her third single this year, titled “No One”. This track is dreamy and stands out from her other songs.
Bond opens the song with heavenly synths. She easily hooks listeners in with blissful lyricism that makes you want to hear more about the story she tells on this track. “When you have your life in two / You can run away, but I’ll always find you”, being the third and fourth lyrics. The drums kick in that make you want to pretend you’re at a ‘60s disco. The chorus on this track is romantic and passionate. Bond sings about how she’s so devoted to someone even though no one knows about them. In the post-chorus her vocals are airy which helps encapsulate how she feels about the person she’s singing about. “Why did you have to walk on by? / Just before I lie, I must apologize”. This lyric indicates that the person she sings about has moved on. She thinks it’s her fault and she has to apologize. She continues with this narrative in the second verse. A glissando transitions the second verse to the word spoken chorus. This part of the song is very reminiscent of early disco-synth pop and it’s definitely a stand out part of the song. The bridge begins with the lyrics, “Don't wanna lie to you, just wanna get high with you / Tell me you're sorry, and that's why I'm leaving”. This line suggests that Bond wants to be in a relationship for the good parts and not the difficult parts. The song ends with the chorus again. My favorite part of the song is how the chorus contrasts with the verses. In the chorus, she sings about how she’s dreaming about this person but in the verses and bridge, she sings about the hard parts of the relationship and how this person walked away from her.

A lot of Bond's music is reminiscent of vintage sounds such as ABBA and Elvis Presley, which she has referenced in her music videos and tour outfits. “No One” was teased on her tour across North America and Europe this year where she sang it when it was unreleased. As a fan, I’ve been listening to her since August of 2024 so I’ve been waiting for this song for a long time and I can confirm it didn’t disappoint.
