After Is Taking Us To Sunrise in New Single
After is an L.A.-based trip-hop duo formed in 2023 by singer Justine Dorsey and producer Graham Epstein. Known for their nostalgic, Y2K-inspired sound, After introduces their upcoming album, Fell Asleep in the Sun, with “Take Me to Sunrise.”
The song certainly lived up to its title. I definitely felt like it was evoking the warmth of morning sunlight on my face while carrying something more emotionally unresolved beneath the surface. Justine’s light, airy vocals feel almost iridescent, floating over hazy, layered production that gives the track a sweeping, cinematic quality. There’s a sense of wanting to leave the present behind and reach a place where something unresolved might finally make sense.
I noticed that repetition did in fact play an important role in this track, creating the feeling that we’re circling the idea of “where we are” without ever arriving at a definitive answer. That ambiguity adds to the song’s dreamlike quality.
There’s also something refreshing about how unapologetically After embraces its 2000s influences while still making them feel contemporary. Compared with their previous, more carefree work, “Take Me to Sunrise” feels darker, warmer, and slightly haunting. Even the album artwork reflects this shift through its richer, autumnal palette.
If this song sets the tone for Fell Asleep in the Sun, After may be entering a moodier, more atmospheric chapter, possibly one that feels less like an ending and more like a new beginning.
