Allie Sandt’s “Intersection” is the Cool Girl’s Country

If you’re unfamiliar with the name Allie Sandt, you might recognize her voice from the song “Leah” by the band Seeing Double. The track went semi-viral on tiktok, the original post garnering almost 100k likes and a comment from Laufey. Since then the singer has pivoted to focusing on her solo career, releasing 7 singles over the past 2 years and performing at intimate venues and festivals across the country. Her folk forward tracks are filled with intricate guitar riffs and vocal flips, blending Fleetwood Mac sensibility with Steely Dan charisma to create music that's nostalgic but unique.

Intersection” is definitely the most country influenced track from Sandt thus far, complete with floating dulcimer lines enhancing the chorus and later verses. She manages to keep her rock footing though, as electric guitar hits weave within acoustic strumming. With a slight twang in her voice she sings about “the great frontier” before quickly clarifying, “of basement shows and lukewarm beer”.

Standard with the rest of her music, Sandt’s voice is a standout. Powerful and smooth, tinged with a kind of faraway ache, she’s reminiscent of Joni Mitchell.

As a city girl from the rural suburbs, this song reminds me of home in the best way. I can already hear the laid back drum beat on my car speakers as I drive through the back roads surrounded by farmland. Be sure to add “Intersection” to your roadtrip playlist this summer.
