Hot Mulligan release new single ‘And A Big Load’ and announce new record ‘The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still’
The highly anticipated fourth record from Michigan rising stars Hot Mulligan has just been announced - ‘The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still’ will be unleashed on our ears on 22nd August 2025 via Wax Bodega. To celebrate the news, the band have given fans a taster of what to come with the release of new single ‘And a Big Load’ paired with a shiny new music video.
If the new single is anything to go by, the new record will certainly be an explosive one. The punk infused track has everything you would expect from a Hot Mulligan track, driven by honesty and frustration, the punk soaked anthem has kicked off the new era in a big way. It dives head first into the frustration about the predicaments we put ourselves in, with co-vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman explaining, “It’s the consequences of your own actions. You could face them; you could avoid them entirely.”
The music video, directed by Michael Herrick matches the single and bands energy perfectly with a chaotic set filmed in a skate park mirroring the urgency of the songs lyrics.
Chris continues to say “Our biggest conflicts and struggles are often self inflicted. Drink too much? Hangover. What did you say last night? Apologize… or don’t. You could commit suicide instead. You could commit to being sober. You could commit to drinking one million beers. At the end of the day it’ll all be left for you to deal with. It’s terrifying.” “The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still’ is a lyric reference, that lyric is in a song about paranoia, which is fear. With the album title, you can go the meditation route, or, the horror that you are in your body, and you have to exist. You have no choice, really. Even if you plan on killing yourself, right now you exist. And that is a terrifying thing.”
This new record is set to be Hot Mulligan’s most cohesive work to date. In addition to bold riffs and careful sonic nuances, it’s chock full of addressing fears, screaming unfiltered vulnerabilities, and finding solace in the fact that regardless of the uncertainty of the future, we exist in this moment - despite the touching subject, with their typical charm they are able to find a good mix of comfort and humour even when it feels impossible.
