The Last Dinner Party Releases “From the Pyre”
The Last Dinner Party has released their new album From the Pyre, on October 17th, 2025. The band was formed in 2021 and has been deemed a queer band following the success of their debut album Prelude to Ecstasy, which has lots of stories involving themes in sexuality and gender. The band consists of Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), Emily Roberts (lead guitar, mandolin, flute), Georgia Davies (bass) and Aurora Nishevci (keyboards, vocals).
As said in their Spotify bio they mention that, “The Pyre itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light.” From the Pyre feels like a group of fairies have gathered around you to tell you the tales of days past. It is earthy and hauntingly beautiful. It’s soft, yet heavy at the same time. The album has a siren sound effect to it that naturally pulls the attention to the production and writing style.
“Agnus Dei” is a super interesting composition done by Abigail and Emily. The harmonies pair super well together and kind of carry the tension throughout. I am obsessed with the guitar pairing with the vocals in the super heavy parts, but I also appreciate the dropout moments where the vocals are paired instead with the piano to create an almost circus feel.
One of the leading singles, “This is the Killer Speaking” is an immediate standout for me because it is haunting and lively at the same time. The juxtaposition of the two feelings create a passion filled poignant sound that is driven by the vocals flips and runs that bolster the idea of a pointed message. This song is super grandiose and fills the atmosphere with a unique apprehension.
Many fans post the album release are quick to compare it to the debut album as most will do, but I urge everyone to separate the two as they have different stories to tell. Prelude to Ecstasy established the band's sound and cemented the kind of music they were capable of making. From the Pyre is them using the built fanbase and resources at their fingertips to experiment with what they could push their limits into creating. The album sounds like they put a lot of thought and heart into every single process, every single sound and feeling surrounding it. Down to the album cover and the videos. The imagery is a necessity to the storytelling that they portray.
