G Flip Turns Minneapolis Into a Pride-Fueled Dream Ride

October 21, 2025 - Minneapolis, MN

On October 21, G Flip brought their latest tour to Minneapolis at First Avenue. Georgia Claire Flipo, known professionally as G Flip, stunned the crowd with their energy and passion on stage. The Australian singer-songwriter is on tour for their latest album, Dream Ride.

The UK singer, Beth McCarthy, opened the night up and got the crowd riled. Starting off with “IDK How to Talk to Girls” and “Hot and Stupid”, McCarthy threw herself around the stage. Her conversation with the crowd was laced with cheeky anecdotes. McCarthy played an unreleased song to honor the Halloween season called “Exes in Bedsheets” and imitated ghosts and monsters during the breaks in singing.

The self-proclaimed gossip followed up with “Drama at the Disco”, which was all about hearing other people’s business while out at a party. Truly, there’s nothing better than a night out with the girls and the debrief after, and this song captured that essence.

Ending with a mash-up of her song, “She’s Pretty”, and “Good Luck, Babe” by Chappel Roan, the crowd could not get enough of her. In between her set and G Flip, the line to meet McCarthy was longer than I’ve ever seen for the opener at a First Avenue show. Cheers greeted McCarthy as she walked up to the merch booth.

Even though the energy never died between sets, G Flip brought a whole new level of excitement into the crowd. Starting off with “Disco Cowgirl” and “Gay 4 Me”, G Flip used that entire stage to their advantage. Half the fun was never knowing where they were going to be next.

G Flip chose to walk through the crowd on their fourth song, “Drink Too Much”. Being eye level created an intimate and comfortable atmosphere immediately. The fans were nothing but respectful and let them move through the crowd seamlessly before hopping back up to the stage. Adding to the respect, G Flip went over their house rules for the show, which included loving the LGBTQIA+ community and making friends with the people around you.

Sometimes, being from the same area Prince has its perks. As it turned out, G Flip’s song “Lush” was inspired by Prince, so playing it in his city felt right and was an honor since G Flip rarely plays it live.

Unbeknownst to me was just how talented G Flip was in addition to singing and having immaculate stage presence. Throughout the show, they hopped onto the drums and played entire songs there. Right before “Rough”, there was a group drum intro where G Flip and their bandmates went back and forth playing the drums and cowbell. As if the drums weren’t enough, G Flip is learning how to play the saxophone. They brought it out several times during the show.

During the acoustic portion, the fans who attend the VIP session before the show choose which song they play. They ended up choosing “Cut His Dick Off” which, based on the title, doesn't sound like it would be played acoustically, but it ended up working well.

The entire show felt like one giant party. G Flip’s show felt like the can’t-miss event of the year complete with pride flags, acoustic songs, drum breaks, and a birthday celebration. Closing out with a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer”, “The Worst Person Alive”, and “In Another Life”, there wasn’t much else left to ask for. There was so much joy at this show, and G Flip has to be proud knowing they were able to create this safe space.
